The China Orphan Outreach programme began in 2005 by MedArt volunteers with the intent of reaching out to orphaned young children in China who required medical care and support for serious and complicated conditions. Our volunteer specialists have expertise in the fields of anaesthesia, ENT, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, plastic surgery and urology, and we have treated a wide range of serious neurological, intestinal and urological conditions. Under the programme, medical professionals in Hong Kong and China work with orphanages and hospitals on a voluntary and free basis. Currently, we work with the Suzhou Children’s Hospital, the Xuen Wu Hospital (Beijing), the New Hope Foundation (Beijing), the Jiaozuo Special Care Unit, the Luoyang Special Care Unit (Henan) and several private hospitals in Hong Kong.

The founding principle was to make available the skills and expertise required to treat complex medical conditions in line with providing nursing and palliative care, as well as the logistical support required for this work to be performed in China or Hong Kong. We also maintain contact with those who have received treatment to ensure that their treatment has been successful. China Orphan Outreach has radically changed the lives of many and has also been a spiritually rewarding experience for the volunteers who have taken part.
