Established in 2003, MedArt strives to fulfill its mission to bring love and care through music into the lives of individuals with little contact with the outside world. A group of medical doctors and musicians join and serve as volunteers to pay regular visits to prisons, psychiatric hospitals, elderly homes and similar institutions, performing classical music for their residents. Through the joy and tranquility that music brings, listeners are comforted and reassured by love and friendships.
Since our inception, MedArt has remained steadfast to its ideal -- Music without boundaries; playing each note and rhythm of the melody that touches the heart of every participant. The volunteering team at MedArt hopes that every concert we organized will deliver a message of brotherly love, and pass on the torch of life. We believe the subtlety of “giving and receiving” will resonate on and off the stage in the dynamics of each and every performance.
Caritas Developmental Disabilities Unit
Date : December 27, 2010
MedArt visited the Developmental Disabilities Unit of Caritas Medical Centre on the 27th of December to perform Christmas music to the children. This unit provides treatment, training and daily care for severely mentally-handicapped patients under the age of 16 in a home-like setting. MedArt was able to visit all four levels of the unit, first performing a half-hour program in the hallway of each floor where some of the children gathered, followed by ward visits. The children were very excited and responded to our performances with clapping, shouting, waving of arms, swaying of heads and smiling. We were very touched by their enthusiasm and eagerness.
MedArt performed a half hour program of Christmas music to staff of the hospital as part of the hospital's Christmas celebration. The team then proceeded to the Day Geriatric Ward for the Ward's Christmas celebration and performed a 45 minute program consisting of carols as well as famous Chinese pop-songs. An 8-people chorus performed a few well-known pop songs including 不了情. Our performances were well received.
A certificate of appreciation was presented to MedArt.
